Terms & Conditions of the two Residencies

PESSIMA PRESENTS THE 2023-24 RESIDENCIES OF FASHION & ARTS

We aim at supporting the artistic growth of local Trans* individuals through two residencies, “Euphoria” and “Dysphoria”.

The creatives selected will receive 500€ each, material support needed to develop 

a project & assistance by our team of experienced tutors.  

EUPHORIA ART RESIDENCY

In three months span, the winner will bring to life one or a series of artworks that expand their personal research.

The Residency will end with a final event in Q1 2024. 

On this occasion, the works will be displayed in a solo exhibition, curated together with the Pessima team.

DYSPHORIA FASHION RESIDENCY

In three months span, the designer will create a number of looks that carry a conscious narrative and can blend well with Pessima’s art direction. 

The Residency will end with a final event in Q1 2024. 

On this occasion, the designer will showcase their creations as part of Pessima’s Runway Show SS25.

HOW TO APPLY

PDF Presentation with a PROPOSAL of the work that you would develop during the residency period. 

*It can include sketches, mockups, drawings, photographs, moodboards and anything else that can make us understand why the project is deserving of the support given by the 500€ prize.*

-(FOR THE FASHION RESIDENCY ONLY) 

PDF presentation with a PROPOSAL of eight  looks that can communicate the design’s details, fitting and construction.

*It can include drawings, flats, mockups, photographs, moodboards and anything else that can make us understand why the project is deserving of the support given by the 500€ prize.* 

The open call entry is free of any charge and the participation requires no fee. 

WHO WE ARE

The residency programs are promoted by Pessima as an opportunity to support two young Trans* creatives in the fields of fashion and art, by giving them all kinds of resources to think, develop and complete an ambitious project.

Pessima thanks Fondazione Marcelo Burlon for the generous donation that covers the costs of the two prices, CIG Arcigay for the yearly sponsorship and Sperm Studio for its visual identity.

DYSPHORIA

Apply by sharing your idea and get a chance to win 500€ plus the material support needed to develop the project & assistance by our team of experienced tutors. 

1. The designer selected will have three months to work on their project, from October to December 2023.

2. They will be given the possibility to get textiles and other materials of their choice from our suppliers. In the making of their garments, the designer will work alongside our three tutors and will have full access to Pessima’s studio equipment, sewing machines, and screen printing lab.

3. The goal is to create a number of looks that carry a conscious narrative and can blend well with Pessima’s art direction. 

4. The Residency will end with a final event in Q1 2024. On this occasion, the designer will showcase their creations as part of Pessima’s Runway Show SS25.

EUPHORIA

Apply by sharing your idea and get a chance to win 500€ plus the material support needed to develop the project & assistance by our team of experienced tutors. 

1. The artist selected will have three months to work on their project, from October to December 2023.

2. They will be given the possibility to gather all the materials and supplies needed to make their idea come true. In the making of their piece(s), the artist will work alongside our three tutors and will have full access to Pessima’s studio equipment, sewing machines, screen printing lab, canvases and paints. 

3. The goal is to create one or a series of artworks that expand the artist’s personal research, to be displayed and curated together with Pessima’s direction.

4. The Residency will end with a final event in Q1 2024. On this occasion, the works will be displayed in a solo exhibition, curated together with the Pessima team.


TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. ENTRY

1.1 You can submit to the open call starting from today. 

Fill the form on pessimart.com with your information and upload the following materials:

  • (FOR THE ART RESIDENCY ONLY) PDF Presentation with a PROPOSAL of the idea that you would develop during the residency period. 

It can include sketches, mockups, drawings, photographs, moodboards and anything else that can make us understand why the project is deserving of the support given by the 500€ prize. 

Please include as many visual materials as you can. The project you are proposing has to be a draft in process, not something you already have done. However, it’s important that you provide us with any information we need to visualize your idea and understand it to the fullest. 

1.2 The open call entry is free of any charge and the participation requires no fee. 

By submitting to the open call, you accept these terms and conditions. 

1.3 REQUIREMENTS

We accept applicants who identify as Trans*, are over the age 18 and of any nationality. The selected candidate must, however, be able to come to work in Milan for the residency period: from October 2023 to December 2024.

The application is individual, you can submit only as a singular creative. Collectives will have to send separate applications and will be considered separate through the selection process. 

In submitting the open call, you are confirming that you are eligible for the prize and in possession of these requirements. 

1.4 Application closes the 10th of September. 

All entries submitted after 12.00 AM of the 10th of September will not be accepted. 

  1. PRIZE

2.1 The winner will be selected by our tutors among the open call entries by the 15th of September. Pessima will publish the name of the winner on its channels as proof of the winning ceremony. 

2.2 The winner will receive a prize of 500€ that must be used to develop their project proposal during the residency time span. Out of the total prize, 100€ will be given to the creative immediately after winning as a reward, while the remaining goes into the budget to realize their work and final event. 

2.3 The 500€ prize is non-exchangeable, non-transferable and non-negotiable.

2.4 Pessima will be contacting the winner through the email address submitted to the open call by September 15. If a winner does not confirm their participation to the program within 3 days from the email, then another winner will be selected. 

  1. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

3.1 By accepting the prize, you agree that Pessima might feature your work and any media reproduction of it on its channels, social media platforms and website. 

3.2 You agree that Pessima has the right to use, display, publish, copy, edit your submission materials and any other materials produced during the full period of the residency.

3.4 You agree that the final physical work you produce has a double ownership, between Pessima as the promoter and you as the artist. 

If sold, the net profit is divided as follows: 50% to Pessima and 50% to the artist. The agreed percentage must not be altered by the presence of any other fee or profit given to external sources, which must be considered as external from the 50-50 property of the work.  

This applies to any, present and future opportunity of selling and displaying the piece(s).
