Marte Gastaldello

In Marte’s practice, art is conceived as a tool for investigating one’s own identity, linked with the physical being of the body. In this way, his art consists of the documentation of a process, an archive that becomes strictly connected to the way in which the self is perceived and develops itself. His main interests are self-portraiture, patterns of words and dialogues, manipulating images and printing techniques.

He works mainly with photography, textiles and video. Usually ending up merging the three of them together, the working process also plays an essential role in the meaning of his work.

His research focuses on analyzing obsessions as they are shown directly on the physical self: His photographic self portraits give birth to new abstract shapes and corporeal beings that integrate the signs of memory, estrangement and gender identity on the body itself.
